The SS Marianna 9 was originally named Principe Perfeito when built in 1961 by Swan Hunter Wigham & Richardson at the Neptune Works Yard in Newcastle.
Built and styled on Italian liners of the day , she was fitted out with the finest wooden fittings and features. Despite a few changes of names and owners , over her career , she remained mostly unchanged when she was sold for breaking up.
In 1981 she was named Vera, and in 1982 she was sold to John S Latsis, the Greek shipping and oil tycoon.
John Latsis named the then Vera , Marianna 9 after one of his daughters. This name board was ordered by Latsis and fitted to the liner upon his purchase of the Marianna 9.
Marianna 9 then spent out her later years as an accommodation ship and temporary housing for the earthquake victims in Kalamata. In 1992 she was laid up alongside the RMS Windsor Castle , and finally sold for breaking in 2001.
