Rare Trinity House Buoy Beacon Bell by Taylors of Loughborough.

A personal favourite, an icon of, and definitely a sound of, ‘the Sea’.

So rare to see these on the market as they were either ‘weighed in’ for scrap following decommissioning or put into churches to replace worn bells.

Made by famous founders Taylor’s of Loughborough who started making bells for Trinity House in the late 1800’s. Cast in, and signed, 1970 this one is from the swan-song period of Trinity buoy bells as the last batch was made in 1977 as lighthouse and beacon technology made them defunct.

Beautiful patina and verdi-gris and lovely evidence of where the hammers used to strike the bell as the buoy rocked at sea. The line of the front of the bell is not a crack, its a mark that is in the thick patina of the bell, we did not want to polish out and ruin the aesthetics.

Unusually complete with its original stand and rubber dampener which delivers perfect harmonic tone and resonance.
