Original lithographic poster commissioned by the War Artists Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Information

Barnett Freedman was one of the first artists to be commissioned by the War Artists Advisory Committee at the start of the Second World War

In July 1941 he was sent to work for Admiralty, and specifically on the HMS Repulse

This Lithograph is a direct adaptation of Freedman’s oil on canvas 15 Inch Gun Turret, HMS Repulse, now in the collection of the Imperial War Museum

It explores the complex relationship between technology and operator in contemporary warfare. The same year that Freedman was posted to the HMS Repulse, a Japanese fighter plane attacked and sank the ship
