Royal Navy Stoneware Flagon in Wicker – 7

Encased in wicker, with two handles a stoneware flagon from the Royal Navy. This variant has the screw top lid which suggests it was used for vinegar. The purpose of the wicker being to provide protection from damage to the stone jar as they were handled from shores to ships to stores.

This ‘Flagon 7’ is the thicker wicker style used in the War-Time. Sadly one of the handles, that was used so vigorously, has come away but can be tucked in for decorative purposes, or could even bare a simple repair, this reflects itself in the price.
